NCERT Introduces Rationalised Syllabus for Class 10 for 2023-2024 Session

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has recently introduced a rationalised syllabus for class 10 students for the 2023-2024 academic session. The updated version of India and the Contemporary World – II, along with other subjects, is now available on the NCERT website.

The rationale behind the revision is to reduce the content load on students in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as emphasized by the National Education Policy 2020 which promotes experiential learning and a creative mindset. Factors such as overlapping of content, difficulty level, and relevance in the present context are considered for the rationalisation exercise.

While some schools have already adopted the revised syllabus, others may choose to follow the same. This move by NCERT to rationalise the syllabus for class 10 has sparked discussions among educators, students, and parents about the implications of these changes on the curriculum and learning outcomes.

As the rationalisation of syllabus for class 10 continues to be implemented in schools, stakeholders are curious to understand the impact of these changes on students’ academic development.

The decision by NCERT to rationalise the syllabus across all streams has raised questions and debates about the effectiveness of the exercise and its implications for students’ education.
