Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Encroachment Drive Recovers Over 2.15 Lakh Kanal of State Land
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has retrieved over 2.15 Lakh kanal of state land from “encroachers” across the valley. The eviction drives will continue until the remaining 2.74 lakh kanal of “encroached” land is reclaimed.
According to official figures, a total of 2,16,683 kanal of state land has been cleared of encroachments in 10 districts of the Kashmir valley. In Srinagar district, 2415 kanal of state land has been recovered, while 28132 kanal of state land and 28891 kanal of Kahcharai land have been retrieved in Anantnag. The Kulgam district saw the recovery of 8928 kanal of state land and 14705 kanal of Kahcharai land.
In the Shopian district, 11341 kanal of state land and 10509 kanal of Kahcharai land have been retrieved, and 26603 kanal of state land and 23568 kanal of Kahcharai land have been recovered in the Pulwama district. The Budgam district saw the recovery of 21698 kanal of state land and 17211 kanal of Kahcharai land.
12110 kanal of state land and 6256 kanal of Kahcharai in the Ganderbal district have been retrieved, while 51975 kanal of state land and 21526 kanal of Kahcharai land in the Baramulla district have been cleared of encroachments. In the Kupwara district, 27497 kanal of state-owned land and 28919 kanal of Kahcharai land have been recovered, and in Bandipora district, 15992 kanal of state land and 17568 Kahcharai land have been cleared of encroachments.
Despite the progress made, 1,41,587 kanals of State land and 1,31,459 kanals of Kahcharai land are yet to be retrieved. The ongoing anti-encroachment drive, which is being closely monitored by the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Secretary, is expected to continue until all state land is recovered.
