AI-Powered Apple Grading Technology Introduced in Kashmir

Kulgam, Nov 27: In a significant stride towards minimizing losses and providing substantial benefits to local farmers through advanced grading processes, Intello Labs has introduced an innovative Artificial Intelligence-driven Opex-Model grading line technology in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Crafted with precision by Intello Labs, this state-of-the-art system leverages artificial intelligence to identify defects, including fungal apples, and conducts precise grading based on essential parameters such as size, color, and overall quality.

Speaking to news agency, Misbah Tahir Peer, Sales Coordinator J&K at Intello Labs, underscored the significance of this innovation, stating, “This optical grading line is a groundbreaking system that utilizes AI to identify defects, including the separation of fungal apples, ensuring precise grading based on various quality parameters.”

She highlighted that it is a fully automated, computerized, optical grader equipped with foreign cameras—making it the only machine in India capable of defect identification in fruit.

Addressing the introduction of this cutting-edge technology in Kulgam, she expressed, “Given the absence of an existing grading line in Kulgam, this technology will bring revolutionary change to the apple industry in the Kashmir valley, starting with Kulgam district.”

Responding to queries about accessibility, Misbah explained, “Farmers can avail a 50% subsidy for the project through the Department of Horticulture.”

Discussing the benefits for farmers, she emphasized its efficiency, noting, “This technology is rapid, requires minimal labor, and can grade 2.5 tonnes of apples per hour. A demonstration was held at Fruit Mandi Kulgam, attended by CEO Millan Sharma, Postharvest Management Professional Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, and other officials, showcasing its effectiveness in transforming apple grading.”
