DC Pulwama Implements Social Media Restrictions in Pulwama District

In a decisive move to address escalating concerns related to the misuse of Social Media Networking Platforms, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, the District Magistrate of Pulwama, has issued a comprehensive order outlining stringent restrictions on specific online activities.

Key Concerns Addressed by the Order:

1. Glorification of Terrorism: The order explicitly prohibits any content that glorifies terrorists and their actions, recognizing the potential impact on public sentiment and security.

2. Intimidation and Terrorism: Measures are taken to prevent the intimidation and terrorization of individuals, the general public, and various sections of civil society through online platforms.

3. Incitement to Violence: The order restricts the incitement to violence by curbing the dissemination of content that encourages members of the public to resort to violent actions against the government established by law.

4. Propagation of Ideology: The order aims to curtail the spread of terrorist and secessionist ideologies, recognizing their potential to disrupt public order and tranquility.

5. Religious Harmony: Recognizing the importance of maintaining religious harmony, the order seeks to prevent the promotion of feelings of hatred and ill-will on religious grounds, which could disturb public order.

Territorial Limits: The restrictions outlined in the order are applicable within the territorial limits of Pulwama District.

Immediate Enforcement: The order comes into immediate effect, requiring individuals to refrain from ‘posting,’ ‘uploading,’ or propagating the specified content through ‘forwarding’ or ‘sharing.’

Ex-Parte Decision: Due to the urgency of the situation, the order is passed ex-parte, as serving notice under Section 144 (2) was deemed impractical.
