The government has recently released the full list of beneficiaries of the Roshni Act and encroachments on state land in the Kashmir region. This move is seen as a significant step towards addressing the issue of illegal land occupation in the area.
The Roshni Act, which was passed in 2001, aimed to regularize the unauthorized occupation of state land by offering ownership rights to the occupants. However, the act was later declared unconstitutional by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in 2018.
With the release of the list, the government is taking steps to retrieve the encroached land and restore it to its original state. The list is expected to bring transparency to the process and help the government identify and take action against illegal occupants.
