Mandatory CCTV camera installation order issued for shops and public places

The District Magistrate of Doda, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, has issued an order under section 144 Cr.PC mandating the installation of CCTV cameras in all shops, establishments, and other public places within the district. This order is being issued in order to improve the overall security and surveillance of the area and to help in maintaining law and order.

The owners of all the establishments, including shops, dhabas, restaurants, hotels, garages, and scrap dealers on National Highway, in and around the main markets in towns and other important roads within the jurisdiction of District Doda, have been directed to install CCTV cameras in their respective shops/establishments within a period of 15 days from the date of the order. This is to ensure that all the establishments are equipped with CCTV cameras and can be monitored to prevent any untoward incidents.

As per the order, the notice cannot be served individually to all the concerned, the order is hereby passed exparte. This means that the order is being passed without any prior notice or hearing, as it is deemed to be in the interest of public safety. Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under section 188 of Indian Penal Code, which deals with disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant.

The Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, has been asked to ensure the implementation of this order in letter and spirit. This means that the SSP is responsible for ensuring that all the establishments within the district comply with the order and install CCTV cameras within the specified time frame. He will also be responsible for ensuring that the CCTV cameras are in working condition and the footage is being recorded and monitored properly.
