On Tuesday, January 3, during the first T20I match between India and Sri Lanka, Indian bowler Umran Malik delivered a particularly fast and powerful pitch, clocking in at 155 kmph and shattering the previous record for fastest delivery by an Indian bowler, which was held by Jasprit Bumrah.

In the 2018-2019 Border Gavaskar series between India and Australia, Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah delivered a particularly fast pitch during a match at the Adelaide Oval. This pitch, which was clocked at 153.2 kmph.

Umran Malik took two wickets and ended the T20I match against Sri Lanka with impressive figures of 2/27 in 4 overs. Many people have been wondering if he is capable of breaking the record for fastest delivery, which is currently held by Shoaib Akhtar at 161 kmph and was achieved during a 2003 World Cup match against England.

Responding to the question, Umran said that currently his focus is to only perform well for his country.

“Right now, I’m only thinking about performing well for the country. If I do well, and if I’m lucky, I’ll break that. But I don’t think about it at all,” said Umran in an interview with News24 ahead of the first T20I.

Shoaib Akhtar, also known as the Rawalpindi Express, has commented on the possibility of Umran Malik breaking his record for the fastest delivery. Akhtar stated that he would be happy if Umran broke his record, but he also hoped that in the process, doesn’t break his bones

“I’ll be happy if he (Umran) breaks my record. But in the process of breaking it, I hope he doesn’t break his bones. What I mean is that he stays fit.” said Akhtar while talking to Sportskeeda.

During an Indian Premier League (IPL) game against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the previous year, Umran Malik delivered a particularly fast pitch, clocking in at 157 kmph
