Snow and Rain in the Valley: Snow and rain have occurred in various parts of the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Budgam, Bandipora, Baramulla, Kupwara, Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag, and Kulgam. Rain has also been reported in various places in Jammu, including the city.

No Major Snowfall Anticipated: The meteorological department has ruled out the possibility of any significant snowfall in the next few days.

Snow Accumulation: While the snow has not accumulated much on the ground, some areas such as Gulmarg, Qazigun and Pahalgam have received 6 cms, 3 cms, 3.5 cms of snowfall respectively in the past 24 hours.

Forecast: The department also states that mainly dry weather is expected in the area from January 14-18th, but there is a potential for a fresh Western Disturbance to affect the region from January 19-20th.

Temperature Rise: Temperatures have risen in the region, with Srinagar recording a low of 1.0°C and Qazigund recording a low of 0.2°C.

Coldest Night: The coldest night recorded this season in Pahalgam was on January 2 when mercury plunged to minus 9.6°C.

Chillai-Kalan: It’s worth to note that Kashmir is under the grip of Chillai-Kalan, the 40-day long harsh winter period that started on December 21st. It is followed by a 20-day-long period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ that occurs between January 30 and February 19 and a 10-day-long period ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold) which is from February 20 to March 1.
