Weather Update in Kashmir
Kashmir is experiencing a pleasant weather change after a moderate to heavy snowfall. The Meteorological department has predicted mostly dry weather till February 4, with no major snowfall expected for the next ten days. The night temperature has increased, with Gulmarg recording a low of minus 8.4 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam minus 4.7 degrees Celsius, and Srinagar 0.0 degrees Celsius.
Reopening of Srinagar-Jammu Highway
The Srinagar-Jammu highway has been reopened for vehicular traffic on both sides after the road clearance work was completed. However, the senior superintendent of police has advised people to drive cautiously as there are still instances of shooting stones and slides at some places.
Resumption of Flight Operations
Flight operations have resumed at Srinagar international airport after being cancelled for a day. Several morning flights were delayed due to low visibility, but the flight operations are now running smoothly. The director of Srinagar airport has stated that the flight operations are going on smoothly.
Resumption of Train Services
The train services have partially resumed after remaining suspended for a day. The senior superintendent of police has advised people to drive cautiously as there are still instances of shooting stones and slides at some places.
Electricity Restoration in Kashmir
The electricity has been restored across the valley, except in some places where road connectivity is still blocked. The chief engineer of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited has stated that electricity has been restored across the valley, barring some places in Tangdhar and Machil.
Postponement of University Examinations
The University of Kashmir has postponed the MBBS, LLB, and BA LLB exams, scheduled for February 1, due to the heavy snowfall. The students from snow-bound areas requested the postponement as they were unable to attend the exams. The controller of examinations has stated that fresh dates for the exams will be notified later.
