MeT Issues Warning for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms

The Meteorological Department (MeT) has issued a warning for Jammu and Kashmir, forecasting isolated heavy rain, thunder, and lightning on March 31. The alert comes as the department has predicted the possibility of widespread moderate rain, thunder, and snow in the subsequent two days, mainly over the upper reaches.

The MeT has also issued yellow warnings for March 30 and April 1 to 3, urging residents to stay prepared.

The four types of color codes signify the level of caution, with orange indicating that government agencies need to prepare for severe weather.

The orange alert for March 31 warns of the possibility of “isolated heavy rain thunder/lightning” and disruption of traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway.

The department’s official has advised people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the orange alert period. The official also informed that there was a forecast for scattered light rain and thunder over Jammu and Kashmir in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures recorded an increase in most places and settled in Qazigund and Pahalgam. Srinagar recorded a low of 6.6°C against 5.5°C on the previous night, with Qazigund recording a low of 4.6°C and Pahalgam recording a low of 0.8°C. Kokernag recorded a low of 4.9°C, while Gulmarg recorded a low of 0.0°C. Jammu recorded a low of 18.5°C against 15.5°C on the previous night.
