Weather Alert: Jammu and Kashmir on High Alert as MeT Issues Yellow Warning for Snow and Adverse Conditions

Srinagar, Nov 28 (PK): In the midst of forecasts predicting rain and snow, night temperatures in most areas of Jammu and Kashmir have remained above normal.

The Meteorological Department predicts “isolated very light rain and snow” in J&K over the next 24 hours. Subsequently, on November 29 and 30, widespread light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and snow are expected across the region.

A “yellow warning” has been issued for isolated thunderstorms and lightning in both Jammu and Kashmir during these two days. The color codes range from green (no action) to red (action needed), with yellow indicating a situation to be watched.

“From 1st-6th December, weather is expected to be partly to generally cloudy,” stated a meteorological department official.

Regarding temperatures, Srinagar recorded a low of 3.9°C, 4.8°C above normal for this time of the year. Qazigund, Pahalgam, Kokernag, and Kupwara also reported temperatures deviating from the usual. Gulmarg, the renowned skiing resort, recorded a low of minus 0.2°C, 2.9°C above normal.

Jammu, the winter capital of J&K, recorded a minimum of 11.1°C, 0.8°C above normal. (PK)
